Tang Ya trained at Beijing Dance Academy’s Chinese Classical Dance Department. Her artistry has been recognized by several awards including a Gold Medal in the 23rd North Korea International Arts Festival, an Outstanding Performance Award at the CCTV Dance World/Dance Legends Competition and a Special Jury Award in the 5th National Dance Competition. Tang joined Hong Kong Dance Company in 2005 and is a Principal Dancer. Among other works for the company, she has performed in Qingming Riverside, Evacuation Order, Plateau Bluebells, Masquerade, Storm Clouds and L’Amour Immortel and has created numerous roles. In 2011, she received the Award for Young Artist (Dance) from the Hong Kong Arts Development Council.
